And no, we didn’t create it!
Back in April we wrote about a lawsuit forcing Google to delete data collected while browsing using Incognito mode. While it is no surprise that Google keeps everything it collects to use for marketing this is just Fred unmasking the bad guy a la Scooby Doo (another great meme). And they would have gotten away with it too had it not been for you meddling kids attorneys.
There is a reason you are seeing ads for DuckDuckGo’s web search and Apple’s focus on privacy. Read any recent news about Google and it’s about their data hoarding, their insights on what 20 years of personal information collection shows about people (hint: a lot of people search for how to kill someone) and the depths to which they will go to glean personal data (Gmail, hello?).
And don’t forget that all of those Google Workspace documents and spreadsheets are free data being handed over to Google’s data harvesters.
Once again, this is what WMD offers OnlyOffice and LibreOffice, Zimbra, MailCow and MatterMost — all self-hosted options that provide the services of Google without the privacy invasion.
Yes, “Google is just easier” and that is what they want you to think. That is why they make it so easy. However, ease is just another way to get you to hand your data over to them.
